  • Atatürk Cultural Center (AKM) is illuminated with pink light for three days to draw attention to the early diagnosis of breast cancer. Located at the Taksim Square, Istanbul's iconic arts and culture landmark will be shining in pink colours until October 15 to support the Breast Cancer Awareness and Awareness Month declared by the World Health Organization. Every day, it is estimated that up to a million people visit Taksim Square.

Speaking about the project, Atatürk Cultural Center’s General Art Director Remzi Buharalı said, "Art raises the awareness of the masses in every sense with its power of influence. With the initiative of GE Health Care, we are illuminating the iconic AKM building with pink to draw attention to the importance of early breast cancer diagnosis, which is vital for women's health. The pink lights serve as a visible reminder to the people who are coming to watch art performances and visiting Taksim Square.”

Breast cancer, the most common cancer type in women with 30%, poses a risk for 1 out of every eight women. Still, it is a disease that can be prevented and treated simultaneously with early diagnosis. For this reason, studies have been carried out worldwide since the World Health Organization declared October as the “Breast Cancer Awareness and Awareness Month” to raise awareness about breast cancer. AKM, one of Türkiye’s most important cultural and artistic institutions, is illuminated in pink for three days to draw attention to such an important issue for women's health.
